Overview
This short course will provide an introductory overview of Logic Pro X, focusing on the functionality and operation of the main controls, windows and features of Logic Pro X. The course is designed for complete beginners to gain some experience using Logic Pro X in an online tutor-lead environment. The course will lay the foundation for further Logic Pro X courses and is suited for anyone interested in learning Logic Pro X. Completing this course will enable you to build confidence in using Logic Pro X and open doors for your creative goals whether that is within Songwriting, Composition, Mixing, Recording, Mastering, Sound Design, Voice Over or Music for the Visual Arts.

It is not necessary to own or purchase a license of Logic Pro X prior to starting the course. Apple offer a free trial version of Logic Pro X which will last the duration of the course.

Course Information
- macOS 12.3 or Later
- 6GB of available storage space for a minimum installation or 72GB of storage space for full Sound Library installation.
- An Apple laptop or Desktop is required and must be capable to run macOS 12.3 or Later
- This course is not suited for Logic Pro X for iPad. We will be running a course soon specifically designed for Logic Pro X for iPad.
This course is delivered online via Microsoft Teams, we will provide you with an Academy of Music and Sound Microsoft 365 account so you can access the live session and access our course materials. We have provided you with a list of resources needed to complete the course.
- An Apple laptop or Desktop is required and must be capable to run macOS 12.3 or Later
- Headphones or Speakers
- Stable internet connection
- Webcam and Internal Device Microphone (not a requirement but your session will be more rewarding if you can communicate with your tutor)
- Audio Interface (not a requirement but useful if you are interested in recording audio files)
- USB MIDI Keyboard (not a requirement but useful if you are interested in capturing MIDI performances)
This course will be delivered over the course of three weeks (every Tuesday evening)
Session 1
The first session will introduce you to the course and give you an overview of the basics of Logic Pro X. The Topics covered in this session are listed below.
- Download and Installation of Logic Pro X (Including Sound Library content and relocation)
- Logic’s user interface and the main windows of operation
- Project Navigation, Control and Organisation
- File Management
Session 2
The second session will introduce you to the basics of digital audio theory with a focus on working with audio tracks and files. The topics covered within this session are listed below.
- Setting up and Audio Interface
- Sample Rate and Bit Depth
- Importing Audio Files
- Recording Audio Files
- Editing Audio Files
- Using Audio Effects
- Using Audio Loops
Session 3
This third and final session will introduce you to the basic of working with MIDI with a focus on working with Logic’s Software Instrument and Drummer Tracks. The topics covered within this session are listed below.
- Setting up a USB MIDI Controller
- Importing MID Files
- Recording MIDI Files
- Editing MIDI Files
- MIDI Programming
- Using MIDI Loops
- Using MIDI effects
At the end of the course, you have the option to take the Academy of Music and Sounds Introduction to Logic Pro X – Level 1 test. On successful completion of this test, you will receive a digital certificate by email. You are allowed to have multiple attempts at the test if you do not succeed the first time.
FAQs
You are able to gain a free Logic Pro X trial via the Apple Website. If you have already used a Logic Pro X free trial you may be ineligible to redeem an additional 90 days.
Unfortunately, Logic Pro X will only work on Apple based systems as it’s exclusively developed for that system.
We are currently developing additional courses at both beginner/introductory level and intermediate. Keep posted for any further updates in the near future.
As we are primarily a UK-based company alongside most of our tutors, we currently opt to operate in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
You are free to participate in this course without having to submit any coursework, should you choose to do so. If you are wishing to gain the certification you can participate in a small optional exam towards the final session. If you pass this exam you will be granted an AMS certification.
Yes, the work carried out on this course could be continued and developed onto the HE course you are interested in. However, these courses are not formally assessed and could mainly be considered as CPD (continual personal development)
You can however use work that you have gained during part of these courses to provide evidence of technical aptitude.
