Do you need to improve your skills to help with your application to a higher education music course? Our Access to HE course is a great option for prospective students who would like to improve an academic or practical skill prior to embarking on higher education. For example, if you have been out of education and need to work on your academic writing, or you are a performer and lack experience in recording and mixing music, this course will prepare you for building skills and confidence in these areas. This course is bespoke to each student, you will be supported by one of our tutors who will guide you to the point where you have the confidence and skills to embark on higher education.

Course cost £280
FAQs
In total the course costs £280 for six 45-minute sessions with one of our AMS Online mentors. This fee must be paid prior to the course commencing and can be paid via our Funding and Finance page.
All sessions are delivered entirely online and we are happy to work around your current commitments.
Your mentor sessions are bespoke, recommended equipment lists occasionally change.
However, the essential items are:
- A laptop/desktop PC or Mac
- Ability to stream video (webcam/phone or another video device)
- Related music software
- Musical instruments as appropriate
- A stable and secure internet connection
Our mentors are well versed in most modern music production platforms.
For those wishing to pursue a production pathway it is advised to use specific software such as Logic Pro, Pro Tools or Ableton etc.
However, alternatives such as Reaper can also be used.
The course includes 6 mentor sessions, typically one per week for 6 weeks.
Due to the bespoke nature of the course, these sessions can be arranged personally with your mentor to last longer or shorter than this.
According to the aims you have agreed with your mentor, you will be set tasks to be completed by the end of the six sessions. This might include practical music making tasks or academic writing and/or research.
Yes, the work carried out on this course could be continued and developed on to the HE course you are interested in. However, the access to HE course itself is not a formally assessed qualification.
Upon successful completion of the course, we will issue a course completion certificate. This could be used for CPD as a record of achievement, but it is not a formal qualification.
Upon completion, your mentor will provide feedback on the quality of your work. The mentors on the access to HE course are also assessors on our formal qualifications, so their feedback will provide a good level indicator for you in terms of your progression to HE.
