My Background
Tom Pottage is a composer and instrumental teacher based in Nottingham, England. He studied Composition at Goldsmiths University, with specialist interest in notation and contemporary performance techniques. Tom began his musical career teaching and playing guitar in and around Nottingham. Since that time he has worked in the fields of Jazz, Rock, Noise and Sonic Art.
He studied music and composition with Nick Redfern from 2007-10 and Roger Redgate in 2013-14. Just as enthralled by the music of Dowland, Bach, Zeppelin, Zappa, Ferneyhough and Finnissy, Tom’s music is a melting pot of historical and sociological influence.
By fusing elements of popular music instrumentation and harmony with the dissonance and complexity of modern contemporary composers, he is reaching for a new musical aesthetic. When he is not teaching or composing, Tom enjoys collecting old theory books, learning new instruments, and painting toy soldiers.
