The program is validated by the University of Wolverhampton and equivalent to the first 2 years of a BA(hons).

The FD (Arts) Creative Music Production can help to prepare you for a career as a music producer, studio assistant and/or recording engineer.

How long is it for?

You can choose to study full-time (4 x 12 week semesters studied over 2 years) or part-time (6 x 12 week semesters studied over 3 years)

Who is it for?

This FD (Arts) Creative Music Production is ideal if you wish to progress your studies from a BTEC Diploma/Extended Diploma 
in Music or Music Technology and/or ‘A’ level studies
 in performing arts of related subjects.
Prior experience in music technology is an advantage while access to basic home recording software/hardware is essential (as a student you are eligible for discounts with a number of retailers).
It is essential that you either have some musical instrument skills OR access to a musician/musicians who you will be able to record.

Entry Requirements?

100 UCAS points from ‘A’ levels or equivalent / BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music/Music Technology (PPP
 or above) / BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Music/Music Technology (MP or above)
For applicants with relevant prior experience, FAST TRACK entry into the second year of the FD or the AMSonline BA(hons) program is possible. Please contact our team for further information.

What subjects will I study?

Throughout the course, you will explore a range of subjects that will equip you with the skills, knowledge and experience to pursue a career in the recorded music and production industries.

Music Production

You will learn how to produce music and be creative with sound, studying influential producers and production techniques from the earliest days of recorded music until the present day.

Style Analysis

You will learn in detail about different genres of music in order to inform your musical decisions. There are many vital lessons to be learned from the past as well as the present.

Music Technology

To develop your understanding of the technical and artistic parameters of a modern-day recording environment, you will receive training to equip you with the skills required to create music of differing genres.

Entrepreneurial Skills

To succeed in the music business (and especially in a freelance world), you will need entrepreneurial skills. During your studies, you will learn how to network with music businesses, develop your music business ideas and write a marketing/business plan

Teaching

Importantly, you will learn how to teach music technology and/or music production. You will complete the course with considerable teaching experience, having developed your own lesson materials, and you will also have had the opportunity to gain a teaching qualification (BTEC Award in Education & Training). What happens next?

Following successful completion, you may progress on to a BA (Hons) Top-Up Degree course.

Fees and Funding

Fees per academic year are £5995 per annum full time (2 years) and £3995 per annum part time (3 years).

Subject to eligibility you can apply for a student loan to cover fees.
